The first question that may come to a person’s mind before this surgery is whether a Hair transplant is painful.
The modern era of hair implantations began in the late 1950s, but since then the techniques have vastly improved with the advancement of new technologies. This has made these procedures much less invasive and less painful than they used to be.
Hair transplants are still considered surgical procedures, even though they are minimally invasive. But for many patients, the term “surgery” conjures up the fear of a slow recovery and painful side effects. In the case of hair restoration, this fear is simply misplaced.
First, when you arrive at our clinic, some necessary tests and examinations are made. Then, our friendly and knowledgeable staff will do everything they can to put you at ease and make you comfortable. In fact, our custom-built clinic is designed to keep every patient relaxed. We use different techniques such as:
- TV
- Music
- Temperature Control
- Aromatherapy
Second, you will meet with your surgeon who will describe exactly what will take place and what you can expect during your procedure. Usually, all hair transplant procedures are performed with local anesthesia that lets you enjoy maximum comfort and even fall asleep. After the scalp has been prepped and numb, the person feels nothing for the rest of the day. The numbness of the head is divided into two parts: numbness in the donor site, where the hair will be taken, and numbness in the target zone, where the hair will be implanted. Finally, painkillers are prescribed after the surgery even though the majority of patients confirmed that they felt almost no pain at all.
Here are some tips you should consider following after your procedure:
- Sleep with your head raised for the first seven days to prevent the danger of swelling and pain.
- For the first two weeks after your hair transplant, avoid exposing your head to direct sunlight.
- Refrain from heavy exercise
- Use ice for 20 to 30 minutes right above your brows
